REI recently completed the installation of an 8860ST Roll Shear, providing our customer with a powerful solution for processing large paper rolls and improving material flow through their recycling operation.
Large paper rolls can be difficult to handle, transport and process efficiently simply due to their size and weight. By installing the 8860ST Roll Shear with an integrated dump table, our team helped the customer reduce bulky material at the source and create a more manageable feedstock for downstream recycling equipment.
This project is another example of how we help customers solve real material handling problems with dependable, American-made recycling equipment built for high-volume use.
Project Overview
For this installation, REI installed an 8860ST Roll Shear system designed to process large paper rolls before they move further into the recycling stream. The goal of the project was to reduce oversized rolls at the source, improve handling, and help the customer feed more manageable material into downstream equipment.
This project included:
- 8860ST Roll Shear, installed
- Integrated dump table
- Hydraulic power unit
- Operator controls
- Safety fencing and guarded access points
8860ST Guillotine Shear
The 8860ST Roll Shear was installed as the main processing machine for reducing large paper rolls. Once the material is loaded into the system, the shear cuts oversized rolls into smaller, more manageable sections that can be handled, transported, or processed more efficiently.
For the customer, this helps address one of the biggest issues with large paper rolls: they are difficult to move, stage, and feed into downstream recycling equipment when left at full size.
Integrated Dump Table
The system has a dump table built in to the shear to help position large rolls for processing. This gives operators a more controlled way to load material into the shear area and reduces the amount of manual handling needed around the machine.
By pairing the roll shear with the dump table, the system supports a more practical workflow from loading to size reduction.
Guarding, Controls and Startup
We also installed the safety fencing, guarded access areas, control components, hydraulic power unit and supporting connections needed for the system to operate properly in the customer’s facility.
The installed layout provides controlled access around the shear while still allowing operators to work with the equipment efficiently. After installation, the system was prepared for startup so the customer could begin using the roll shear as part of their paper and trim recycling process.
Project Result
With the unit installed, the customer now has a dedicated system for reducing large paper rolls before they create handling or processing issues downstream. The installation gives the facility a more efficient way to manage oversized material, improve processing flow and support the value of their recyclable paper products.

Frequently Asked Questions
REI installed an 8860ST Roll Shear with a dump table, safety guarding, controls and supporting system components. The equipment was installed to help the customer process large paper rolls more efficiently.
This system was installed for processing large paper rolls. The roll shear reduces oversized rolls into smaller, more manageable material that can move more efficiently through the customer’s recycling process.
A roll shear was a strong fit because the customer needed to reduce large paper rolls at the source. Cutting the rolls down before they move downstream helps improve handling, processing rates and overall material flow.
The dump table helps position large paper rolls for processing through the shear. It supports better material handling by helping operators load and stage rolls in a more controlled way.
By reducing oversized paper rolls before they reach downstream equipment, the system helps create a more consistent material size. That can improve processing efficiency and reduce problems caused by bulky, difficult-to-handle material.
